The Juneau Education Association (JEA) is coordinating some COVID-19 appropriate activities for its annual Read Across Alaska events in March. The purpose of Read Across Alaska is to promote reading in Alaska and to honor Alaskan authors.
JEA is working in collaboration with City and Borough of Juneau Parks and Recreation, Juneau Public Libraries, Sealaska Heritage Institute, and the Juneau School District to provide virtual and physically distanced experiences like:
- Virtual Kick-Off event with special guest Michaela Goade, Caldecott Winner and hometown illustrator on Wednesday, March 3, 1:00 pm via Zoom.
- StoryPaths – Get outside and read three of Michaela Goade’s books along hiking trails in the community.
- IditaRead Challenge – We’re making a list of resources to share with teachers.
- Virtual Guest Readers – We’re making a list of contacts for teachers.
