Sitka Teams Win Holiday Shootout

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Sitka Wolves boys and girls basketball teams swept their 2021 Holiday Shootout championships on Saturday.

      Thursday game scores featured the Petersburg Vikings girls defeating the Glenallen Lady Panthers 45-38, the Petersburg Vikings boys defeating the Glenallen Panthers 48-39, the Sitka Lady Wolves defeating the Bristol Bay Lady Angels 62-21, and the Sitka Wolves winning by forfeit over the Bristol Bay Angels.

      Friday scores featured the Sitka junior varsity boys defeating Petersburg 41-37, the Petersburg girls defeating Bristol Bay 49-35, the Sitka boys defeating Glenallen 43-23, and the Sitka girls defeating Glenallen 55-19.

      Saturday results featured the Sitka JV boys defeating Glenallen 37-33, the Sitka boys defeating Petersburg 53-43, the Glenallen girls defeating Bristol Bay 46-25, and the Sitka girls defeating Petersburg 57-38.

      The Girls All-Tournament Defense team were Petersburg’s Kaili Simbahon, Glenallen’s Teagan Rude, Sitka’s Tawny Smith and Bristol Bay’s Brooke Phelps.

      The Boys All-Tournament Defense team were Glenallen’s Braden Cry, Sitka JV’s Ben Turner, Petersburg’ Lathum Johnson and Sitka’s Jaden Costello.

      The Girls All-Tournament Offense team were Petersburg’s Ines Larson, Glenallen’s CeAnika Palacios, Bristol Bays Meadow Phelps and Sitka’s Maitlin Young.

      The Boys All-Tournament Offense team were Glenallen’s David Miller, Petersburg’s Michael Durkin, Sitka JV’s Trey Demmert and Sitka’s Shane Webb.

      The Most Valuable Player for the girls was Sitka’s Ava Brady and for the boys Sitka’s Nik Calhoun.
