East, West Top Football Polls, Juneau Third

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The sun continues to rise in the East and set in the West and in the high school pigskin landscape that means Anchorage’s East and West football teams top the Alaska Sports Broadcasting Network polls.

      The Division One Cook Inlet Conference powerhouse East Thunderbirds (3-0) lead the ASBN poll with the West Eagles (3-0) second and Juneau Huskies (2-1) falling to third after their 49-23 loss to the Eagles over the weekend.

      Juneau will host East at 3 p.m. Saturday on the Adair Kennedy Field. Juneau has defeated Colony 53-12 and Dimond 35-6 on the AKF.

      East put the division two Lathrop Malemutes into the loss bracket last weekend by the score of 50-26. The Thunderbirds have also beaten South 59-22 and Service 45-22.

      West plays at South (0-2) this week. West has beaten Bartlett 33-9, Service 35-6 and now Juneau.

      The fourth ranked Colony Knights (2-1) topped the South Wolverines 34-31 last weekend. Colony has also defeated Bartlett 40-13. Colony plays at Wasilla this week.

      Service (1-2) plays at DII Soldotna. Service has defeated Dimond 26-20 and lost to East and Juneau.

      The Bartlett Golden Bears (1-2) have defeated Palmer 22-15, and lost to West 33-9 and Colony 40-13.

      The Dimond Lynx (0-2) have lost to Juneau and Service.

      The ASBN poll lists the top six DII/III teams as DIII Monroe (3-0), DII Wasilla (3-0), DII Lathrop (2-1), DII Soldotna (1-1), DII North Pole (2-0) and DII Eagle River (2-0).

      A side note: according to the ASBN this is the first time in school history that Monroe is number one in the polls.

      Monroe hosts Redington this week, Wasilla hosts Colony, Soldotna hosts Service, Lathrop plays at North Pole and Eagle River plays at Palmer.

      Monroe has beaten DIII Nikiski 52-14, DIII Seward 38-8, and DIII Eielson 62-12.

      Wasilla has defeated DIII Houston 31-6, DII West Valley 42-0, and DII Kodiak 34-6.

      Lathrop had beaten Soldotna 27-21, Palmer 50-7, and lost to East.

      Soldotna has defeated DII Chugiak 35-0 and lost to Lathrop.

      North Pole has beaten Chugiak 30-6 and DII Kenai 36-0.

      Eagle River has beaten DIII Houston 50-0 and DIII Homer 57-0.

      In a national ranking poll top 10 that uses a strength of opponents schedule, DI East was still on top, followed by DI West, DII Lathrop, DI Colony, DII Eagle River, DII Soldotna, DI Juneau, DII Wasilla, DI South, and DI Bartlett. Following were DI Service, DII Palmer,  DII North Pole, DIII Houston, DIII Redington, DIII Monroe, DIII Homer, DI Dimond, DIII Barrow, DII Chugiak, DII West Valley, DII Kodiak, DII Kenai, DIII Nikiski, DIII Valdez, DIII Eielson and DIII Seward.
