Crimson Bears Hockey Team Slide Show

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau-Douglas Yadaa.at Kalé hockey team will be resuming holiday play on the road. The Crimson Bears (2-1) travel to Railbelt Conference rivals Homer on Thursday and Friday, and Kenai on Saturday. Their first home series is against Kodiak Dec. 10-11 (7:30 p.m.) at Treadwell Arena. A slideshow from last weeks inter-squad scrimmage is below.

      The Crimson Bears initial roster includes seniors Colton Johns (D), Joey Meier (F), Fin Shibler (F), Sam Bovitz (F), Andre Peirovi (F), Illya Wallace (F), Dylan Murdoch (D), Cody Kesselring (F), Kyla Bentz (F), Jack Cisney (F) and Cody Roomsburg (D); juniors Brayden Baxter (G),  Karter Kohlhase (F), Brandon Campbell (D), Adian Kovach (F), Anna Dale (F), Gabe Hansen (D), Ian Murphy (G), Minta Schwartz (F), Bailey Hansen (F), Lake Bartlett (F), Arvid Bush (F), Tommy Pearson (F) and Lydia Ploof (G); sophomores Ian Moller (D), Caden Johns (F), Xavier Melancon (F), Sonny Monsef (D), Mason Sooter (G), Camden Kovach (D), Brenden West (F), Dane Pederson (D), Macabee Brna (F) and Kelton Griffith (F); and freshmen Caleb Friend (G), Emilio Holbrook (F), Dylan Sowa (F), Angel Aranda-Jackson (F), Ike Puustinen (F), Lukę Bovitz (F), Zander Smith (D) and Matt Plang (F).

      Head coach is Luke Adams, assistant coaches include goalie coach Pete Sommers, varsity assistant Matt Boline, varsity assistant Mike Bovitz, varsity assistant Jay Lloyd, and  junior varsity coach Dave Kovach.

      After hosting Kodiak Dec. 10-11, the Crimson bears play against Soldotna at Kenai, Jan. 6-7; at Kenai, Jan. 8; host Palmer, Jan. 13-14; host Tri-Valley at Treadwell, Jan. 17 (Varsity), Jan. 18-19 (JV); play West, Jan 19 at Anchorage’s Ben Boeke, play South, Jan. 20 at Ben Boeke, play Dimond, Jan. 21 at Ben Boeke; host Houston, Jan. 28 and Jan. 29 (Senior Night).

        Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - Sixty-one minutes into the ASAA Soccer State Championships, Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé senior Blake Plummer broke the Crimson Bears' all-time assist record. She slipped a pass along to classmate Kyla Bentz, who put the ball past the Houston Hawks' keeper for the team’s fourth score in what would be a 6-0 clean sheet.

    • Falcons Begin State Soccer Repeat Quest with Win over Palmer

      Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - The Thunder Mountain High School boys soccer team’s opening match at the 2022 ASAA state soccer championships at Anchorage’s West High School may as well been the Juneau Soccer Club’s victory over Whitehorse five years ago. That was the first time Falcons seniors Talon Briggs and Wallace Adams connected for a goal.

    • Opening Day at Region V Softball, Baseball Tourney puts Capital City on Edge

      Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau-Douglas High School: Yadaa.at Kalé Crimson Bears and Thunder Mountain High School Falcons softball teams lost their opening games at the Southeast Region V Championships in Ketchikan on Wednesday and will face each other in an elimination game today, while the Crimson Bears baseball team put the Falcons sandlot boys into an elimination game as well.
