JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) — U.S. Rep. Don Young’s office says the Alaska Republican helped evacuate from Afghanistan employees of an Alaska Native corporation last month.
Young’s office released a statement Friday saying that employees of Goldbelt Inc. were among those evacuated from Afghanistan.
A message seeking comment was left for McHugh Pierre, Goldbelt's president and CEO.
He was quoted in the statement as saying the effort entailed moving to safety former employees who are Afghan nationals.
He says the corporation had been working to support the U.S. State Department in Afghanistan for several years.
