Wrangell cagers undefeated at Anchorage tourney

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) - The Wrangell Wolves and Lady Wolves basketball teams are undefeated at the Rally the Regions tournament at Dimond High School in Anchorage.

Both teams are 2-0 after the boys' team beat Tok 55-26 and the girls' team won their match 70-25

It was the same story against Selawik as the boys' and girls' team won 68-58 and 56-12, respectively.

Next up, the teams from Wrangell will face Cordova on Friday. The Lady Wolves will tip-off at 12:30 p.m., while the boys play at 3 pm.

A win would likely send the teams to the championships on Saturday.

In addition to Wrangell, teams from Tok, Selawik, Haines, Scammon Bay and Cordova are taking part in the tourney.

The annual event, which began in 2015, features teams from smaller villages and cities in Alaska. It is sanctioned by Rally Alaska rather than ASAA, which usually sanctions most high school sporting events in the state.

At the 2015 tournament, Wrangell players Amy Jensen and Trent Stokes were recognized as "Best Student Athletes."
