Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Woshkeetaan totem pole was rededicated in the atrium of the State Office Building Friday afternoon.
That is now the new indoor home for the totem pole that was carved in 1980 by Nathan Jackson with the assistance of Steve Brown and Dorica Jackson. It was designed by George Jim, Sr.
The pole stood outside Centennial Hall for many years and, in 2016, the pole was placed in storage due to preservation concerns. The Juneau-Douglas City Museum began searching for a new home for the pole in 2020 and moved it to the State Office Building Atrium in October of 2021, where it has been lying flat and adjusting to the indoor climate.
