Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) A 62-year old Ketchikan woman swerved to avoid a deer on North Tongass Highway.
Alaska State Troopers report Debra Matthews was headed northbound in a 2010 Toyota Tundra pickup near mile marker 13. The deer ran into the roadway and she abruptly veered off the road into the ditch and struck a tree.
Troopers said the North Tongass Fire Department responded to the scene.
Troopers went on to report that Matthews was wearing a seat belt. They ruled out speed and alcohol as factors.
