Winter storm warning for the start of spring

The Juneau area could receive up to 8 inches of snow

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A winter storm warning has been issued for the Juneau area and is in effect from 4 p.m. Saturday until 10 a.m. Sunday morning.

Edward Liske, in the Juneau Forecast Office, said to expect 5 to 8 inches of snow and possibly wind gusts up to 35 mph.

The spring equinox occurred at 1:37 a.m. on Saturday, but that doesn't mean the snow is letting up yet. "We're still looking at a few systems coming in," said Liske.

Liske said Juneau has received 11 inches above average of snow accumulation so far in March. He added that the high temperatures are typically around 40 degrees Fahrenheit at this time of year, yet they've been measuring  "around the mid-thirties for the past several days."
