Winter storm brings about half a foot of snow and a precipitation record for the date

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Monday's winter storm brought a good amount of snow before it turned to rain.

    Meteorologist Jake Ruckman at the Juneau Forecast Office said just over five inches were recorded at the airport and just under six inches at their office on Back Loop Road.

    From the reports, they received from around the area the five to six-inch range was pretty typical, however, he said there were a couple of reports from West Juneau and Douglas of a foot of snow.

    Five to 12 inches was forecast.

    A precipitation record for the date was established.  A total of point 69 inches was recorded at the airport which exceeded the point 51 inches set in 1946.
