Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Capital City Fire Rescue responded to a fire at the St. Vincent de Paul complex on Teal Street early Saturday morning.
Assistant Fire Chief Ed Quinto said the fire involved two carports and multiple vehicles. He said the call came in at 3:29 a.m. "Upon arrival, our first responders found a car fire that had extended to other vehicles that were housed in a carport. "
The chief says there were about three vehicles in that carport. The fire extended to another nearby carport where there were four vehicles parked. He says a total of seven vehicles were damaged. The main carport was a total loss.
We talked to one resident whose pickup truck went pretty much unscathed with the exception of a scorched license plate and one tail light that was melted.
Fire Marshal Dan Jager was on scene investigating the cause and calculating an estimate of damage.
Jager later updated News of the North that the fire was found to be an intentionally set fire.
