Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Coast Guard called off a search for a person in the water near Eldred Rock in Lynn Canal on Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Juneau received a report from the captain of the cruise ship Celebrity Solstice at 3 a.m. that a 40-year-old woman fell overboard.

The search was called off Tuesday afternoon after nearly nine hours, according to Coast Guard Petty Officer First Class Ali Blackburn.

"I received notification that the Coast Guard assets have yielded negative results, so all assets have returned to base and the search has been suspended," Blackburn said. "Coupled with an estimated survival time of 6.19 hours in the water, led the Coasts Guard to suspend the search."

Involved in the search were an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Air Station Sitka, a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Juneau, and the crew of Coast Guard Cutter Chandeleur.

The name of the woman has not been released.
