Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - DEED is issuing a Request for Applications (RFA) for State Tribal Education Compacting Demonstration Tribal Partners grants.

The Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED) identified five positive goals which were articulated as Alaska's Education Challenge.

DEED is issuing a Request for Applications (RFA) for State Tribal Education Compacting Demonstration Tribal Partners grants. They are seeking applications based on geographic representation, variety of educational methodologies, representation of different-sized schools and communities, and overall, statewide representation.

Their intent is to have a demonstration project to show how State-Tribal Education Compact schools can work across Alaska.

The mission of the demonstration phase is to lead a more permanent widely available variety of education compacting processes.

In addition, this RFA asks potential sub-grantees to provide Tribal partnership with the Alaska State Board of Education and Early Development (SBOE) to support the development of a report to the Alaska Legislature for what is needed legislatively to create State Tribal Education Compacts.

This is part of the implementation of Senate Bill 34.

Applications are due on December 31st at 5:00 p.m, AKST. The application is available here.
