UAS Chancellor outlines budget situation on Action Line

    UAS Chancellor Dr. Karen Carey

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - University of Alaska Southeast Chancellor Dr. Karen Carey summed up the school's budget situation succinctly while a guest on Action Line.

She explained that the last year of the three year compact between Governor Dunleavy and the Board of Regents comes in Fiscal Year 22.  That will mean another $1.5 Million reduction to her school.

Dr. Carey claims they can make that reduction without layoffs.  She said their approach will be to not fill positions when they become vacant.  She hopes this will be the last of the cuts so they can get on some kind of stable ground and know that they're going to be secure moving forward.
