Two wireless communication towers approved

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ Planning Commission approved special use permits for wireless community towers on Merganser Road and Crazy Horse Drive.

Verticle Bridge LLC plans to construct a 150-foot tall tower on 64 acres of land owned by the CBJ at 16150 Merganser Road.

The permit requires the tower to be constructed.  There are no lights required.

The land is currently used as a 44-foot high water reservoir.

The applicant stated the tower will fit the needs of a growing demand for wireless communication services.  There are two towers located closeby and the nearest residence is about 500 feet away.

The second tower will be constructed on 32 acres of land local at 10020 Crazy Horse Drive.  The property is zoned industrial.   It is the current location of the Southeast Alaska Food Bank.

The permit requires the tower to be 150 feet tall, and contain no lights.  There are three other towers located within 1,000 feet of this project.  The tower will be surrounded by a six-feet tall barbed chain link fence.
