Tuition for career and technical classes to be slashed at University of Alaska

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Effective for the Fall semester, tuition for career and technical education at the University of Alaska Southeast will be reduced by 25 percent.

Pete Traxler, the executive dean of that school, said on Action Line Tuesday that that will be the case for over 80 classes.

Traxler said it was decided to lower the tuition for these classes in order to become competitive with similar programs in other states.

UAS Chancellor Rick Caulfield joined Traxler on Action Line and said this is something University President Jim Johnson and the Board of Regents have wanted to put in place for some time.

The chancellor said the tuition reduction will also apply at the Anchorage and Fairbanks campuses.
