Troopers seek person who shot cow

Delta Junction, Alaska (KINY) - A breeding farm cow was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head in a field off Tanana Loop Sunday.

The cow had just given birth and was still nursing the calf when it was shot.

Troopers said the cow was shot in the head and bled out over a period of time.

Authorities said the bullet appeared to be from a high-velocity weapon, perhaps a .223 caliber.

The value of the cow was estimated to be in the thousands of dollars due to its age and breeding capacity.

The farm is hand raising the young calf.  It was reported to be in good condition.
