Troopers rescue man from sinking vessel

Sitka, Alaska (KINY) Wildlife Troopers aboard the vessel Courage, pulled a man out of the waters near Sitka harbor.

Calvin 'Mark' Bigelow, 62, was on board a sinking 40-foot commercial troll vessel, the F/V Safari near Kasiana Island, that rolled over.  Troopers responded to the distress call and found that the vessel was sinking rapidly.

The US Coast Guard Air Station Sitka provided personnel and salvage crews to investigate potential oil spills and to handle recovery operations.

The report said the vessel became unstable in a heavy gust of wind and began to take on water.

Troopers said there were no injuries in the incident.
