Troopers fatally shoot man

St. Mary's, Alaska (KINY) A man came at officers armed with a knife early today after the report of a disturbance.

Alaska State Troopers were requested to assist a Village Police Officer after a domestic violence incident late Thursday.  Carl Tyson, 28, allegedly ran from the scene.  He was pursued on foot by troopers and after a short pursuit, turned and advanced on the officers with a knife in hand, Troopers added.

Troopers went on to report that Tyson ignored commands to stop and drop the knife.  Troopers fired on the suspect, struck him, and he died at the scene.

An autopsy will be performed in Anchorage.  The investigation is now being handled by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation.  The trooper involved has been placed on 72 hour administrative leave.
