Tribe wins two construction contracts

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) It was a big month for the Tlingit and Haida Tribal Business Corp.

The corporation won a $18 million contract to provide support services for the U.S. Navy in Guantanamo Bay, on the island of Cuba.  They also won a $44 million contract with the U.S. Marine Corps air station in Beaufort, South Carolina last week.

CoastAlaska News said the corporation will manage maintenance services, port operations and waterfront administration for the base in Cuba.

The company employs about 600 people.  Most of the jobs are in other parts of the country.  The corporation's hiring policy does include a preference for tribal members.
