Trial set in murder of Ketchikan man

    Prince of Wales, Alaska (KINY) A suspect in an October 25th murder at a logging camp has pled not guilty to the crime.

    Timothy Murphy, 26, of Ketchikan, is accused of shooting to death Brian Stanton, 64, at the Phoenix logging camp on Prince of Wales Island last month.  Murphy appeared in court Monday and pled no guilty at his arraignment hearing to charges of first degree murder, second degree murder and tampering with evidence.

    Alaska State Troopers said they have recovered the alleged murder weapon, a 22 caliber rifle.  Troopers also reported the rifle was found in a clearing not far from the logging camp.

    His tentative trial date was set for January.
