Travel companies continue to cut workforce

    Washington, D.C. (ABC) - An additional two million Americans filed for unemployment this week and some major airlines announced further job cuts.

    Several big companies announced new layoffs.  American Airlines reports they will cut their management workforce by 30 percent.

    Boeing is moving forward with a plan to cut 10 percent and Amtrak 20 percent of its workforce because of declines in travel caused by the pandemic.

    Businesses have started to reopen across the country.  This week was the 10th consecutive week where more than two million Americans filed for unemployment benefits.

    Over 42,200 have filed here in Alaska since the pandemic began.
