Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Tlingit & Haida held a community picnic to honor graduates of all ages.

Jenny Brown organized the event on Saturday, May 21st, 2022, from 11 am to 2 pm.

"It's the end of school event for the kids. Preschool, toddlers, K through 12. It's part of our post-pandemic, it's one of the first big events since the pandemic. We've been wanting to get kids more involved with outdoor activities and more family-orientated stuff, off their computers and phones. They have a water relay, balloon relay, egg toss, and arts and crafts inside. Plus, we have picnic items for food-wise. We have a hula hoop and jump rope contest for all ages. We have some family races and lots of prizes. Tlingit and Haida have different departments inside and our Implementation and Training donated prizes, Tribal Child Support, Business Economic Council, Sealaska Foundation, Goldbelt Corporation, and the Rock Dump all donated prizes. And City and Borough of Juneau with pool and turf passes. Home Depot donated a grill with charcoal and grilling tools that go with it. We have informational stuff in all of our gift bags. Doug Chilton donated some prizes, and we had some people make handmade earrings. It's really warm out, and everyone's glad to be outside with the water, and the bubbles, and the water balloons," Brown said.

Brown says that no future events are on the calendar yet, but Tlingit and Haida will be planning more summer family events.
