Ten new COVID deaths reported in Alaska

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services reports ten COVID-19 deaths over the last week along with 1,435 new cases between Monday and Tuesday.

    Five of the deaths were reported in the Fairbanks area.  There was one each in Anchorage, Palmer, Wasilla, the Northwest Arctic Borough, and in Western Alaska.

    There were 64 hospitalizations.

    The area with the most cases was the Bethel census area with 598 and 124 in Bethel itself.. Twenty-nine cases were reported in Juneau, twenty-seven in Ketchikan, and four in Sitka.   Sixteen cases were reported between Hoonah, Angoon, and Yakutat.  One case each was reported in the Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area and in Metlakatla.

    There were 136 cases in Anchorage and 32 in Fairbanks.

    The department says the statewide alert level remains high.
