Temporary drive-thru COVID-19 testing outside Centennial Hall

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The City and Borough of Juneau is standing up a temporary drive-thru testing facility outside Centennial Hall this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This testing opportunity is for people who’ve recently socialized at a Juneau bar. No appointment is necessary. People can just show up. Tests will be administered as quickly as possible, but there may be wait times involved.

    Walk-ups will also be accommodated.

Due to a number of cases being linked to a social gathering that included employees at Juneau bars, CBJ and local Public Health officials recommend that people who’ve recently socialized at a Juneau bar get tested for COVID-19 regardless of whether they have symptoms.

Exceptions to this are people who don’t have symptoms and last socialized at a bar 14 days ago, or last socialized at a bar 10-14 days ago and can practice strict social distancing for the next couple of days.

“Socialized” means you were in close proximity to other people not in your household at the bar, weren’t always wearing a mask, others near you weren’t always wearing a mask, and you were in that environment for an extended period of time (more than 15 minutes).

People who fit the criteria for testing should utilize the drive-thru testing facility.
