Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The Alaska Marine Highway System predicts the Tazlina will operate in the Lynn Canal.
The Tazlina will replace the ferry Fairweather that connects Juneau to Haines and Skagway. The vessel can accommodate up to 300 passengers and 53 vehicles.
The Fairweather measured 235-feet while the Tazlina measures 280-feet.
A sister ship, the Hubbard, is expected to be completed sometime this year.
The Hubbard is likely to serve Prince William Sound and replace the ferry Aurora.
The state plans to add forward side doors to the new ferries which will cost about $3 million each.
