T&H holds food drive for community Thanksgiving meals

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Woosh ji.een Drive helps tribal citizens as well as the entire community of Juneau.

Jeni Brown, the Family & Community Engagement Specialist for the Healing Center in the Community and Behavioral Services Department at Tlingit & Haida, organized a food drive for the month of November.

T&H's Community Food Drive, named "Woosh ji.een" or "Holding Each Other Up", will benefit the Southeast Alaska Food Bank.

Brown said she was inspired by T&H President Richard Peterson saying, "let's meet our citizens where they are."

Brown said she also wanted to organize the food drive for Thanksgiving meals, and because of Helping Hands Foodbank closing in Juneau.

The drive runs from November 7th and ends November 30th.

Drop-off locations include Edward K. Thomas Building at 9097 Glacier Highway, Generation Southeast (VTRC) at 3239 Hospital Drive, and the Andrew Hope Building at 320 Willoughby Avenue.

Brown noted what specific food items are being requested.

"Tuna fish, tomato sauce, mixed vegetables, soups, canned corn, mac and cheese, canned fruits, noodles, diced tomatoes, canned chicken, cereal, jelly, chili, spaghetti sauce, pastas, canned beans, Top Ramen and peanut butter."
