Support vehicle runs over two bicyclists killing one on Interior highway

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - One bicyclist was killed and another injured when they were struck by the driver of a vehicle they were traveling with near Mile 125 of the Steese Highway.

    Alaska State Troopers report the accident occurred nearly three miles west of Central just before 8:30 Saturday evening.

    Troopers identified the deceased as 37-year-old Michael M. Gentry of Eielson Air Force Base.  Thirty-nine-year-old Jay M. Butler of the airbase suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

    A helicopter from Ft. Wainwright responded and transported the men to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.

    The identity of the driver has not been released pending completion of the investigation.   The two victims and the driver were taking turns riding the bicycles and driving the support vehicle, a 2015 Dodge Ram truck.

    The State Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy of the deceased man.
