Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A Juneau family awoke to find their home on fire early Sunday but were able to get out unharmed thanks to a working smoke detector, Capital City Fire Rescue said.
Assistant Chief Ed Quinto said the first alarm was received at 3:30 am and crews responded to the 1600 block of Glacier Avenue to find smoke and fire coming from a 2 1/2 story home.
Crews attacked the fire quickly and were able to make sure all of the residents got out unharmed.
Quinto said considerable fire and smoke damage was done to each area of the home.
Firemen said the fire appeared to have originated from the downstairs area.
The Capital City Fire Marshal's Office is now investigating the cause of the blaze.
The American Red Cross assisted the family and the firefighters at the scene.
