Story talks about her passion for education on Action Line

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Andi Story's passion for education was a chief reason for her deciding to enter Juneau's House District 34 race.

She spent year after year while a member of the local School Board going to the capital to testify to the Senate and House Finance Committees on the need for an adequate level of funding.

"When I thought about the budget situation and going up to the Capitol and getting other people to go up to the Capitol and testifying to people at the committee, I thought I want to be on the committee.  I've seen first hand the cuts to education.  I know money is not everything, but we are cutting in to the heart of what we're doing at education."

Story said it is a necessity to look at the  forward funding of education.  She believes it needs to be done inside the base student allocation since it would continue each year. Story is also open to the idea of devoting a portion of Permanent Fund earnings to the funding of education.

The Democrat is vying for the seat with Republican Jerry Nankervis in the November 6 election.
