State reports 563 new cases of COVID-19

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Alaska Department of Health & Social Services reported 10 new cases in Juneau, six in Ketchikan, and cases in the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, Sitka, Prince of Wales-Hyder and Yakutat-Hoonah-Angoon on Thursday.

    The state also reported four new deaths and  six nonresident cases.

    Anchorage added 227 cases, Homer 44, Kenai 42, Wasilla 40, Soldotna 38, Bethel 18, and Fairbanks 16 new cases.

    The total Alaska resident cases is now 28,892.  The total of nonresident cases stands at 1,210.

    The current statewide alert level in the past two weeks remained high at 79.8 cases per 100,000

    The Juneau City and Borough have averaged 30.8 cases per 100,000 in the past two weeks.

    Northern Southeast has averaged 26.9 cases per 100,000.

    Southern Southeast has averaged 12.9 cases per 100,000.

    16 of the new cases were of residents aged 80 or older.

    There were 24 new hospitalizations in the state.

    The new deaths included a male Anchorage resident in his 70s, a female Southeast Fairbanks Census area resident in her 70s, a male Anchorage resident in his 70s and a male resident of the Valdez-Cordova Census Area in his 70s who died out of state.

    The average percentage of daily positive tests of the previous week is 6.42%.
