State fair could lose liquor license

Anchorage, Alaska (KINY) The State Fair said they might have to significantly raise admission prices to make ends meet.

The Anchorage Daily News reported that the state Alcohol and Marijuana Control office has made the recommendation.

Legislative audits have faulted the Board for issuing recreational site licenses like the one issued to the fair.  Current state law allows these licenses at locations that host events like baseball games, car races, hockey games, dog sled races, and curling matches.

The board added ski areas to the list.

The state fair has held a site license since 1981.

The board renewed a site license for Arctic Valley Ski Area in August but voted against a new one for Eaglecrest Ski Area.

A decision on the fair license is expected in February.
