Stabbing Could Have Stemmed from Stolen Shoes

    Juneau, AK (KINY) - Two men were assaulted in Lemon Creek Tuesday evening with one suffering a head wound and another a serious stab wound.

    Emergency officials responded to a call about a stabbing where a 39-year-old man was found with a stab wound on his arm and a 44-year-old man was found with a head injury after being hit by a blunt object. Both reported that they were attacked by 25-year-old Kurtis Detemple of Juneau. Witnesses to the altercation also pointed to Detemple. According to witnesses, the fight had broken out over stolen shoes.

    Police were later able to locate Detemple and arrest him for 1st Degree Assault and 2nd Degree Assault. He was transported to the Lemon Creek Correctional Center without bail.

    The knife thought to have been used as the stabbing was located and put into evidence.

    According to a press release from JPD, the man who had suffered the stab wound was flown out to Seattle for his injuries and he was last reported to be stable; the injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. The man who suffered a head wound was treated at the Bartlett Regional Hospital and later released.
