Soldota resident shot several times, man arrested on murder charges

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - State troopers responded to a shooting Tuesday morning at a home in Soldotna, and upon arrival, they found a man dead.

    A preliminary investigation conducted by responders revealed that 28-year-old Soldotna resident Nathan Penrod had shot 29-year-old Soldotna resident Zechariah Bowman several times with a handgun.

    Bowman was declared deceased at the scene, and Penrod had fled the home.

    A short time later, Penrod contacted the Alaska State Troopers and was interviewed.

    At midnight Wednesday morning, Penrod was arrested on charges of Murder in the first degree and Assault in the third.

    He was remanded to Wildwood Correctional Center.

    Bowman’s next of kin have been notified.

    The remains were sent to the State Medical Examiner for autopsy.
