Social Service Grants Announced by Juneau Community Foundation

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau Community Foundation has released a list of grants going to local social service organizations.

Amy Skilbred, the organization's executive director, was among the guests on Action Line Monday. She says the grants total $1,877,200.

The funding came from several sources including the foundation's Hope Endowment Fund and other foundation funds: the City and Borough of Juneau's Social Service Funds, the CBJ Water Utility Waiver Program, Avista Corporation, and United Way of Southeast Alaska.

Skilbred said that 27 grants went to 26 organizations. She added that all of the organizations who submitted a letter of interest were funded.

Board member Reed Stoops, who chaired the Grants Committee, said several areas emerged as clear priorities, especially substance abuse and homelessness.

In addition to these grants, seven non-profits that provide housing will receive CBJ Water Utility Waiver support.
