Sitka schools hope to reopen in one week

Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - An increase in COVID-19 cases in Sitka prompted the School Board to close schools from November 11-17, Vice Chairman Eric Van Cise said.

"We know how critical it is to have children in school in person and that is our goal," Van Cise added.

The City and Borough of Sitka Assembly approved a Resolution encouraging people in the City and Borough of Sitka to continue COVID-19 prevention efforts for keeping Sitka Schools open.

Administrator John Leach read into the record a proclamation to honor veterans for Veterans Day.

The assembly also approved a resolution to honor Elaine Strelow for her 34-year career at the Pulp Mill and her long service to local agencies and charities.
