Sitka Police to lock doors

Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - The move is an effort to limit public access to the building as the COVID-19 problem develops.

The measure is temporary.  It is expected to last four to six weeks.

Police said the front door of the department is now locked and no public access is allowed to the lobby.

Anyone who needs assistance can call the non-emergency number at 747-3245.

There will also be no visits allowed of inmates in the jail.

They urge residents to practice social distancing and to wash hands for at least 20 seconds.
