Sitka orders residents to hunker down

    Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - The Sitka Assembly ordered non-critical entities and businesses to close to the public and ordered residents to stay home as much as possible.

    Other recommendations for critical businesses included using social distancing and encouraging employees to work from home.

    Critical businesses include those in the health care industry, Sitka's largest employers.

    Others exempted included barge services, public works construction, housing construction, airport operations, water, sewer, gas, electrical, utility, minerals, roads and highways, trucking and shipping, public transportation, sanitation workers, internet and telecommunications.

    Others exempted include public safety workers, grocery stores, critical government functions, and businesses that provide food, shelter and social services.

    There have been no confirmed cases of the virus in Sitka.
