Sitka, Alaska (KINY) - Robbie Morgan was due in US District Court today to answer a charge of attempted possession with the intent to distribute heroin.
US Postal Inspector Kevin Horne reported a package mailed from Sitka January 31 from Morgan's post office box was inspected by a K-9 unit in Anchorage on February 3. Authorities said they found $8,650 in cash inside.
A second package was mailed from North Bend, Oregon to Sitka and inspected on February 6.
Authorities said they located 264 grams of heroin inside HD Design Candles located inside the package.
Federal agents arrested Morgan when he attempted to pick up the package at the Sitka Post Office.
Authorities later searched a home on Sawmill Creek Road in Sitka and said they located 33.7 grams of methamphetamines, 9.3 grams of heroin and items related to drug paraphernalia.
Morgan was to appear for an arraignment hearing today.
In a second case, Micah Nelson of Juneau was indicted on a federal charge of possession of ammunition by a felon. Authorities allege he possessed .40 caliber ammunition on October 24, 2019.
Juneau Police arrested Nelson in October for charges related to the assault of a Juneau woman. He allegedly shot at Juneau Police when they approached him. He later gave up after a short standoff at a local hotel.
Nelson was ordered to appear for an arraignment hearing today. He also faces charges in state court.
