Shaff arraigned on first-degree murder charge

    Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - A Juneau man, 30-year-old Joshua A. Shaff, was arraigned Thursday in the court of Magistrate Emily Wright on a charge of first-degree murder.

    Shaff is alleged to have stabbed Majid Sateri, 69, also known as Mark Humford, to death on Wednesday.

    The incident occurred inside an apartment in the 800 block of West 12th Street. Police said the initial cause of death was ruled to be multiple stab wounds.

    Wright levied a $500,000 cash-only performance bail for Shaff's release, ordered no contact with Sateri's family, and appointed a public defender.

    Shaff’s next court date, for a preliminary hearing, is set for Jan. 14, 2021, at 4 p.m.
