Seat belt may have saved driver from serious injuries

Ketchikan, Alaska (KINY) - A 25-year-old Anchorage woman lost control of a Ford pickup on Forest Park Drive when a deer stepped out onto the road Wednesday morning.

Alaska State Troopers said Justine Samaniego attempted to drive around the deer, lost control, and the vehicle entered a steep ditch and rolled three times.

The vehicle came to rest on its roof.

Troopers said the driver fled the crash scene before they could arrive.

Samaniego was located at a hotel in Ketchikan and was charged with failure to immediately report an accident and driving while license revoked.

The vehicle was a total loss.

Troopers said Samaniego was wearing a seatbelt and received minor injuries.
