Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) - A fishermen may have drowned after he tried to rescue his dog in the Tanana River Sunday, Alaska State Troopers said.
Troopers said Alfaz Sajd Khan, 22, of Salcha, was fishing when his dog went into the river. When he jumped it to try and save his pet, Khan was unable to make it back to shore.
Troopers said he was last seen about 50 yards from shore.
The University Fire Department, Airport Fire and Rescue, Fairbanks Troopers and Wildlife Troopers, and a helicopter were brought in to try and find the man.
At last report, the search was still underway.
The dog was able to swim back to shore.
