Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - Sealaska Heritage Institute announced in January that Celebration was canceled in 2021, but have said they are monitoring COVID conditions for an in-person celebration in 2022.
Chief of Operations for Sealaska Heritage, Lee Kadinger, was asked how it is looking for a celebration to be held in 2022 while a guest on Action Line.
Kadinger said that Juneau is on a good path of COVID prevention and that if the community stays on that path, they will have an in-person celebration in 2022.
Meanwhile, Sealaska Heritage recently released all its video from Celebration 1982 onto YouTube, bringing the footage online for public access for the first time, and plans to release all other Celebrations by 2022.
Sealaska Heritage plans to release all past Celebrations onto YouTube by 2022 and is already in the process of editing the rest of the 1980s Celebrations and digitizing Celebrations from 1990-2016.
Kadinger said that people can go to their YouTube channel and can be notified of future celebration materials released by them on the platform.
