School Board to take up budget matters in first reading

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The Juneau School Board will conduct its regular meeting as scheduled Tuesday evening but in a different fashion, according to Superintendent Dr. Bridget Weiss.

"We are going to do it via Zoom just because we can't really predict how the roads will be especially when the board and cabinet might be traveling home later at night."

She said there will be a link on the district's web page on the left-hand side of the main page for those interested in tuning in.

There are a number of items up in first reading.  They include a revision for the Fiscal Year 22 Operating Budget;  a request to the Assembly on increasing the local cap for FY 22 since enrollment is down; and the proposed Alaska Board of Education legislative priorities.

A couple of executive sessions are planned.  One will occur earlier when a work session is normally held.  Dr. Weiss said the subject will be the status of negotiations with the district's employee groups.    The other will come at the end of the regular meeting.  The topic of discussion during that session will be the superintendent's mid-year evaluation.

The regular meeting is scheduled to convene at 6 p.m. following the initial executive session scheduled from 4:30 to 5:45.
