Rocket launch planned in Alaska

Kodiak, Alaska (KINY) California-based Astra Space Inc.will launch a commercial rocket Friday.

Backup dates are scheduled between Friday and October 16th at the Pacific Spaceport Complex on Kodiak Island.

The company is licensed for a suborbital flight on its Rocket 1 vehicle.

The Kodiak Daily Mirror said the company conducted a test launch at the spaceport in July but it was terminated after 21 seconds.  The launch was considered a success even though the rocket did not reach its suborbital destination.

This will be the second commercial rocket launched in Kodiak.  They have held about 20 launches for the federal government since the complex opened in 1998.
