Robotics team honored

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) The Juneau Board of Education honored the students that took part in the Robotics Team that took home an award from state competition for the first time.

Teacher Carol May advises the group.  She said they were very successful this year, "This is the first time all five teams made it to state.  One team won the robot design award which was nice."

35 students competed on five different teams this year.  The state final was held in Anchorage.

May said the robotics program takes in a lot of STEM subjects and actually lets students see a career that could be in front of them, "It was great.  I think this program is amazing for kids.  They can explore engineering.  One of our students was really great at getting sponsors for the team.  He has a skill set that won't help him in engineering but it will help him in other ways."

May said they learn a lot from the other schools.  She said they get a lot of new ideas on how to attack next year's competition.
