Road for mines to be discussed

Fairbanks, Alaska (KINY) How about a long road that the public can't use?

The Federal Bureau of Land Management has scheduled public hearings to hear Alaska residents comments on a proposed 200 mile road that could connect Fairbanks with Northwest Alaska.

The wouldn't be open to the public and would only be used for mine access.

The Ambler Road project has been discussed since 2014.  Some Alaska residents have raised concerns about possible industrial contamination as well as disruption to historic hunting and fishing grounds.

Supporters of the road said all of the questions and concerns will be address by the environmental impact statement and other studies.
