Public Works Committee Discusses Advertising on Busses

Juneau, AK (KINY) - The CBJ Public Works Committee discussed a policy to allow businesses to advertise on Capital Transit buses.

This topic was discussed way back in the 1980s and at that time the CBJ decided to limit advertising to non-profit organizations.

Committee Chairman Loren Jones says that he's skeptical that advertising would generate revenue for the city. “There's potential to help some businesses out, whether the city would receive any significant revenue I don't know.”

The first step would be to send out RFPs for interest. The city would likely hire an advertising agency to handle the project. “Somebody that would coordinate putting the ads up, manage them, collect the revenues, those kinds of things.”

The committee also honored Roger Healy who retires soon as the CBJ Director of Public Works and Engineering.

“I wish him luck. He's done a lot of service with the city, then the state, and then back with the city and I think like many of us who work for many, many years we deserve our retirement. He's earned his.”
