Public hearing on Mendenhall Glacier master plan set for later this month

Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The master planning effort for the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area that started a year and a half ago is reaching a critical juncture.

Recreation Area and Visitor Center Director John Neary talked about that on Action Line.  He said their next public meeting is set for Thursday, April 26 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Visitor Center.

The plan will look 50 years into the future to create a vision that matches increasing demand with changing landscapes, and updating infrastructure to meet those challenges, according to Neary.

Neary says the April 26 meeting will be the last one prior to launching the formal public process as outlined by the National Environmental Policy Act.

A decision following that process is pegged for December of this year.

Again the meeting is set for Thursday, April 26 beginning at 4 p.m. at the Visitor Center.
