Juneau, Alaska (KINY) - The CBJ Docks and Harbors Department plans yet another public meeting on ways to improve the safety and efficiency of the Amalga Harbor Boat Launch.
Port Director Carl Uchytil says it's planned for 6 Tuesday evening at the Mendenhall Valley Public Library.
At the initial meeting three years ago, Uchytil said the public told them that the area was too congested. An in-house study looked at various options that included having fish cleaning floats outside the harbor and extending the boarding float to allow more vessels to tie up.
Critics complained that there was an insufficient opportunity to provide public comment despite the previous meetings.
This latest meeting will be facilitated by PND Engineers. Uchytil says the company will be looking at all reasonable options including the removal of the existing fish cleaning station to adding an extension to the existing boarding float with greater amenities.
A recommendation will be forwarded to the Docks and Harbors Board for its decision. Funding in the form of a grant from the State Department of Fish and Game is in place for the project which the Assembly will be asked to sign off on.
